Three Things Thursday

Today’s Workout: PT exercises

Hey everyone, it’s that time again!

1. So first I want to apologize that I haven’t posted as much lately! Fieldwork started this week for my occupational therapy graduate program and its been a whirlwind. I’m acclimating to the environment, to treating patients on my own (ahh!), and the workload. I’ll prepare better in the future so I don’t leave you all hanging like this! If you are so inclined, you can follow me on twitter in order to keep up with me a bit better. Also, send me tweets if you want, I love to chat :)

The wicked witch actually got crushed by the weight of grad school workload! I didn’t take this photo FYI! I found it online.

2. I’m taking some time off from running. I am both happy and sad about this. Honestly I haven’t done much of anything this week in terms of fitness for the reasons I described in my first “thing” (I haven’t had a minute to breathe this week). Boo I stink for not working out enough! But I am going to spin class tomorrow.

I also have been going to PT religiously and my therapist has me do a ton of squats and lower body strengthening. Goodie goodie! Now this is my area of weakness (obviously based on the state of my knee) so its a lot of work for me. I’m thinking that between the rest and the PT, maybe this IT Band will leave me the heck alone for good! I do need to start training for the Reach the Beach relay I’m running in October so I’ll have to come up with a training plan soon for the summer (any training plan ideas for a relay?). So exciting!

I LOVE this place!

3. This weekend is my dad’s birthday and its also fathers day! Since my Dad is the greatest (not just my opinion, its fact! :) . I got him a great gift to celebrate. I can’t tell you all what it is yet in case he reads this but I think he will like it. It’ll be a good addition to the “dad cave” we are trying to set up in my parent’s basement. The man needs a space to watch the Yankees in peace! I am planning on a whole fathers day post just to tell you all a bit more about how awesome my dad is. But I just wanted to say thanks to my dad for always being there for me and for always being so selfless. What do you love about your dad?

Randoms- 1.) picked up a race packet today 2.) Delivered turkey sandwiches to 25 hungry kiddos 3.) Jumped on a trampoline!

  2. jennie finch is amazing!!! you are looking like you have some power behind your pitch as well! I was just a reliever when i pitched (basically back up when our starters we tired or having an off day), i was always a first basemen :)
Three things I wanted to be growing up:
    1) An actress
    2) Play on Canada’s Women’s Olympic Baseball team
    3) A Veterinarian

    I became a teacher ;)

  3. Smart choice laying off of the running! Focus on your training when your ITB is good and ready :) wow were you an ambitious girl! I wanted to be a teacher, dental hygienist, and interior designer. Random things about my day: first Short haircut in about 2 years, NO snaking on my day off (whoop whoop), decided to go hiking in NC in a few weeks!

  4. I think I have some competition for your Dad, my Dad;) My Dad is such a positive influence on my life, and one of my biggest supporters. I just love him.

  5. Sometimes it’s good to take a break from running so great job realizing that it’s a needed break! When I was little I wanted to be a stock broker for awhile… as well as a pediatric surgeon and a lawyer.

  6. I couldn’t run at all during college. Life was too hectic. Take your time.

  7. I love how my dad is always there to help me work through difficult decisions. He was my go to person when I was choosing grad schools and he helped me way out my options and make the right decision for me!

When I was little, I thought I was going to be an olympic gymnast…not quite!

  8. aww dad’s are the best! my dad and i golf together so it’s fun :) and ya know somethings a break can be a very good thing! little time to regroup and like you said maybe your IT Band will thank ya for it! When i was little I can remember wanting to be a writer, illustrator, and an astronaut haha!

PS YAY for getting a bike soon!!! :) can’t wait to hear about it!

    • Haha exactly I’m hoping this is what my knee needs! I would have LOVED to be an astronaut, but then I found out they have to be good at math and physics and I said no way.

Can’t wait to ride the bike.. picking it up soon :)

  9. I can’t wait to see your new bike! :)

  10. Such healthy food!! Exciting that you are getting a bike – I need to get one but not ready for the commitment ;)

  11. Glad you’re enjoying field work. It’s so different going from classes to working with no classes! At points in my life I wanted to be a ballerina, news reporter, and psychiatrist. Too short, too shy, and too much school haha :)

  12. Ugh…I think I may need PT for my hip. It’s just not getting any better. I didn’t want to go to the doctor, but I don’t think I can avoid it anymore :(

  13. on thing I love about my rest days is the fact that I sleep until 9 or 10 – no shame at all :)
Glad to hear that you are giving yourself some time off from running because of your knee – you’ll come back even stronger!

  14. No worries about not posting! You’ll figure out a balance soon.
