Three Things Thursday

Today’s Workout:
physical therapy lower body exercises

Yay one more day until the weekend :) I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to it like crazy!

1. I need some advice on the first of my three random things today. What does everyone eat for breakfast? Do you have time for a sit down one or just eat on the go? Now that I’m at fieldwork I have to wake up super early to get there. I also have issues and am typically nauseous when I wake up for the first half hour or so, and because of that I usually eat on my walk to the subway or to work. But I need something that really fills me up and wanted to ask for some ideas :)

I’ve been drinking protein shakes from Premier Protein and they are great but I need to order more and I’m also not sure if I’d rather drink those as a snack. But I’m confused!! I need some ideas of fast and easy and/or on-the-go breakfast ideas everyone uses. Something filling and healthy, unlike this combo…

2. I’ve made a few food discoveries this week! First is a Kombucha drinkI found at my local deli. I’ve heard about Kombucha before but never tried it. Basically, Kombucha is a sweetened tea that’s was fermented by a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast. It claims to help detox, promotes probiotics, and even helps treat arthritis among other things. Now, I don’t know if there’s any evidence for any of that, but I figured it couldn’t hurt.

The one that I tried had a bubbly texture and also had pear and ginger flavors. It was certainly an interesting after-taste but after I got used to it, I liked it! Not bad. I definitely want to try other flavors and brands to compare the taste but I’m definitely not scare of it anymore haha. And hey, if it helps my achy back in the meantime then so be it.

The wonder drink, apparently

That same deli also started selling Skinny Pop popcorn. A while back I won a bag from Heather@Run, Eat, Play and LOVED it, but couldn’t find it anywhere near me. Only 39 calories per cup! Well yesterday was my lucky day.. it was in stock, and tons of it. Now I can eat popcorn guilt free all the time :)

3. So this week I also made a few purchases I am excited about. First of all, I got my Sweat Pink sweat activated tank top from Fit Approach! Its super pink and a perfect length, plus when you sweat the words “Stay Strong” appear in the back.. such a cute idea! Can’t wait to SWEAT PINK in this tank :) Want one? You can order one here.

Another purchase I make this week (finally) was a Sparkly Soul headband, in pink of course. I tweeted yesterday asking people if these actually stay on your head during working out and the overwhelming consensus was YES! They sell these at my PT office and I’ve been eying them for a while now so I finally took the plunge. I haven’t worked out in it yet, but I wore it home from PT and it didn’t move. That’s HUGE for me, headbands never stay on my head.

Yay for sparkle!

Also, I won a gift card to PlanetGear.com from Skinny Runner a few months ago and finally got around to ordering from the website! I ordered a cute pink dress from a a store called Soybu and got it in the mail today. I was SO excited to try it on and luckily it fits perfectly! I’m always nervous about ordered clothes online (sizing is tricky) but this worked out well. Can’t wait to wear it out. It has a built in bra (woohoo!) and is racerback too so it can be dressed up or down. Plus the material is so comfortable.

Tried to get a semi-normal photo for you all!

Three things questions:

3 things I’m embarrassed about right now (and now sharing with the blogging world):
1. I killed my bamboo plant. Seriously, who kills bamboo?
2. My podiatrist added some pads to my orthotics and now they are huge and crazy looking.
3. I haven’t been doing as much cardio as I should be :/ Fixing that soon!

My half dead bamboo. RIP

3 favorite Trader Joe’s items:
1. Almond butter with sea salt
2. Chocolatey Cat Cookies
3. Spicy Peanut Vinaigrette Dressing
4. Vegetable root chips (I had to add a fourth, even though I could talk forever about TJs)

3 favorite NYC parks to hang out in during the summer:
1. Central Park
2. Brooklyn Bridge Park
3. Bryant Park

Tell me random three things about your day.
Answer any of the three things questions above!

  1. For breakfast lately it’s been the same.. And it seems to work! Whole wheat (large pieces and you taste grains) with PB, a boiled egg, and a banana (on the larger side). If I run out of something, I’ll substitute with an Activia yogurt with granola in it! All of this put on a paper plate and cut in small pieces so I can eat easily while driving. This keeps me full, so I hope it would work for you too!

    • Boiled eggs are such a good ideaI They are so much easier to eat quickly, plus they taste good haha. I should try boiling a bunch at the beginning of the week. I also think the banana will help me, going to buy them ASAP

  2. One thing that is super easy for bfast for me is a Green Smoothie! Spinach+milk+chia+vanilla protein powder+rolled oats and sometimes I throw in a spoonful of almond butter – the oats help me to stay fuller longer. Hard boiled eggs are for sure a go-to because the protein factor is what is supposed to keep you full. By far my favorite bfast is when I can have chicken sausage with an egg and some sautéed spinach – but that isn’t quick!

  3. I have 3 eggs and a handful of nuts to start my day with omegas and good fats! :)

  4. I either eat Kashi GoLean cereal, a Shakeology shake, Greek yogurt and granola, or a Clif bar for breakfast…depending on my schedule and if I was able to get a morning workout in. A friend told me about Kombucha a couple months ago and I LOVE IT. I have a couple glasses of hot tea a day of it and when I can get a hold of the cold stuff, I grab it (it’s hard to find around where I live).

  5. 3 fav TJ’S items: (obvi!)
    1. Frozen yogurt
    2. Low cal kettle corn
    3. Chickenless orange chicken
    4. Soy chorizo

I figured since you did 4, I would, too :)

  6. I always make pancakes for breakfast. I suppose that’s a hard one if you don’t have a lot of time, but I always make spinach pancakes and it’s the perfect start to my day! :)

  7. I always try to eat eggs for breakfast, but in something, like a protein muffin. You could make the muffin the night before and put pb on it so it’s ready to eat? they really fill me up!

I’m so excited to get my sweat pink shirt:) Also, my bamboo plant I had for 5 YEARS died last week thanks to a cat eating it. Grr, I was so sad, that plant was a beast!

    • A protein muffin is a nice idea, especially since I have a new protein powder I love. Good idea!

Glad I wasn’t the only one who’s bamboo died, except yours was probably healthy before it got eaten unlike my pathetic one!

  8. i have a rotation of like 3 breakfasts that I love and just eat depending on how i feel that day. Eggs with veggies takes only a few minutes to scramble and cook, oatmeal with protein powder just another few minutes and best of all a great big green smoothie which you can drink on the way!

    • I think I definitely need to try the oatmeal with protein powder! That I could totally fit in. TOTALLY wish I could make smoothies but my boyfriend wakes up after me on weekdays and I don’t want to wake him up with the blender (we live in a small apartment) chopping up my veggies at 6:30 am haha.

  9. ugh i get nauseous in the morning too and i can’t eat right away..i stick to whole wheat bagels and peanut butter so that way i can take them along. i’m not super hungry in the mornings so that usually holds me over until about 10 when I have a “second meal” which is usually greek yogurt and granola. I literally can’t go for more than 2.5-3 hours without eating! haha

You look so cute in that pink dress..so summery :)

I LOVE that TJ’s spicy peanut vinaigrette! it is soooo good!

    • I should probably get a bag of bagels. Plus PB always fills me up, I should start doing something like that for sure!

Thanks girl :) Can’t wait to wear the dress out.

TJs is amazing! I don’t know how they do it!

  10. That dress you won looks so cute on you :) I love it!!!! and I would love cupcakes for breakfast…..or any meal for that matter ;)

  11. for breakfast I’m loving…greek yogurt with frozen fruit granola

  12. well, i definitely did not do as much shopping as you! my fave go-to breakfast is overnight oats. make them the night before and grab them on your way out! no fuss!

  13. Maggie

I eat overnight oats for breakfast every morning during the work week. I use the recipe from Peanut Butter Runner (http://www.peanutbutterrunner.com/overnight-oats/) and then just add peanut butter and jelly (from Trader Joe’s!) when I get to work.

I really want to pick up a Sparkly Soul headband. I have super, super fine hair and headbands always slide off.

And I have killed a bamboo plant so you’re not alone :)

    • Thanks for sending the recipe! I’ll have to try overnight oats, never had them before.

You should definitely get the headband, its SO good. Seriously I haven’t worn headbands in years because they never stay on but this one actually works.

Glad I’m not the only person unlucky with bamboo!

  14. Well as you know from my blog post – I have successfully killed bamboo as well. That crap is whacky.

Cute dress – I need to check out that website!

Considering I work form home half the time – I am the worst to ask for breakfast advice :)

  15. I always have time to sit and eat breakfast so sometimes I cook something sometimes it’s whatever. Some on the go options, are making some breakfast sandwiches/roll ups, overnight oats, fruit and some yogurt, and large smoothies are a good option too!

I am a plant killer too, but my Father gave me an indoor plant a few weeks ago that you only need to wanter once a week. It’s doing awesome!

    oh and Cute Dress!

  16. Jackie

Breakfast is usually wheat bread with peanut butter and a banana.
I love TJ’s, cat cookies are my favorite!

I manage to kill every plant that tries to share a home with me.

Breakfast I eat the standard boring bread with jam and yoghurt with fruit.
