My Weekend Summary: Food, Friends, and Fitness

How was everyone’s weekend?!

I had a really nice one. Spent a ton of time outside, got in a bunch of exercise, saw friends, and ate some awesome food. Saturday Karl and I went on a 7-8 mile bike ride around the neighborhood in Brooklyn and explored a bit. I also ran 2.5 miles and felt really good! Going to start training for the RTB Relay this week (ah!), I’ll post more on that later. Sunday we went biking 14 miles total to Queens for brunch with Karl’s family. Here’s some photos to recap.

Rockin the Sweat Pink laces this weekend!

On Saturday Karl and I explored the bike path at Brooklyn Bridge Park, starting from Pier 6 to Pier 1 and back. This was the first time I went to Pier 6 and its amazing! They have sand volleyball courts that are open for reservation and to just go play. Plus there’s a mini water park for kids which is adorable. Wish I was 5 so I could run in it without embarrassing myself!

After the park, we went to a place in Cobble Hill called The Nut Box. Its basically the mecca for nuts, dried fruit, and granola. Loved it! Karl really wanted corn nuts for some reason so we picked those up. I also FINALLY found almond meal and finally bought chia seeds. I put them in a smoothie this weekend and love them already. The yogurt nut mix I bought was also really good, I’m convinced. I’ll be going back to the Nut Box pretty soon I think, there’s so many cool things to try.

In the evening we went to Serafina restaurant in the meatpacking district with friends. The food was great and it was a perfect place for people watching since we sat outside and it was a super busy neighborhood. We got to witness some interesting outfits and people so obviously it was a great time!

Sunday Karl and I rode our bikes to Queens to visit Karl’s parents. We went to a restaurant called Bear Burger, which sells gourmet organic grass-fed burgers. The decor was really nice, the milkshakes were incredible (with real chunks of chocolate at the bottom), and the burgers were SO good. They rival Shake Shack in my book!

Bear Burger bears! Super cute, I’m a sucker for themes.

Bear burger with bison meat on a brioche roll, onion rings, and fries. All organic and delicious!

I highly recommend going to Bear Burger, you won’t regret it! After lunch we walked around the neighborhood and randomly headed into a super cool candy store. They sold candy from my childhood that I haven’t seen in YEARS. Yes, they had candy cigarettes and warheads!

Pop Rocks. Not as good as I remember but still cool to find them again!

So. Much. Candy!

Um, yeah. That’s some serious candy. I had to practice an insane amount of self-control in this store! They had chocolate covered everything in these jars so if you’ve read my blog enough you’ll know how hard that is for me!

Candy cigarettes for the win! Can’t believe they used to sell these to kids in like every store..

The HP fan in me wanted these so bad, but the flavors included earwax and sausage so I passed.

Tell me about your weekend!
Did you run, bike, go to a class this weekend?

That sounds like an awesome weekend! I love getting outdoors and biking places during the summers. Especially when there is food at the end of the bike ride haha. ;) That burger looks delicious! I recently bought bison meat and I can’t wait to try it.

  5. I found a Harry Potter Chocolate Frog recently- it was not very good but I was thrilled to have found it anyways! :)

  6. I love love love Bonnie’s Grill in Park Slope for a good burger! That nut place sounds awesome, I’m going to have to check it out!

  7. Your weekend sounds so fun. I’m a huge HP fan too so before I ran Disney last year I made sure to go check out the park. So fun, felt like a little kid.

Sounds way more fun than my weekend! I did get out for a run as a study break, but most of it was spent with my books and practice tests. :(

PS- After my exam lets play volleyball at Pier 6!

  9. HA ha! I have a box of Every flavored beans but we just look at them… we don’t eat them! Yet! My little kitty is named after them (Bertie Bott – but we just call her Beans!)

  10. Love Serafina! The Meatpacking is one of my favorites for some good people watching. Had my bf’s bachelorette party in Boston – it was great!

  11. I haven’t had corn nuts in forever, those are so good!

  12. Candy shops are so much fun (and oh so tempting)! Seems like you had a great weekend and awesome for running! I ran this weekend as well and got some weeding and cleaning done. Not particularly fun but still needs to be done.

There used to be a small burger place downtown that I loved but they closed last year and have been replaced with a gyro shop (which I’m not a fan of). My friend used to work at the shake shack when she lived in NY for a little. I’ve heard they are good but never been.

    • Glad you got some running in this weekend, awesome!! Weeding is definitely a tough job, I usually count it as a workout (depending on how many weeds haha).

Shake Shack is SO good, worth a try for sure. Their chocolate milkshakes are to die for!

  13. What a nice weekend! I love the Bear Burger bears, so cute!

Good luck with your training for Reach the Beach, I can’t wait to hear more about it! And then finally run it with you :)

  14. Yummmm! Bear Burger sounds like a place Kenny and I would both love.

  15. Ok, one I used to LOVE those candy cigarettes! I may have some in my “junk” drawer currently……Two, the Harry Potter jelly beans are always a hit in my classroom. My kiddos love candy and so I’ll give them a choice and they can pick the one they want, but I don’t tell them the flavors…..it’s so funny to see their faces when they get like grass or soap….haha they get so grossed out and yet most of them want more. (Am I a mean teacher?)
