Weekend workouts: 6.5 mile run, SPA in Central Park, 3 mile run, LB strengthening
It was a super hot weekend in NYC, but I spent a good amount of time outside getting my fitness on! Especially Saturday, which was jam-packed with some really fun events. Early in the morning, I met up with Katherine for a long run on the NYC Summer Streets. I have never experienced this before so I was really excited.
Basically, Park Avenue and Lafayette Street are closed from around the Brooklyn Bridge to 72nd street and open to pedestrians, bikers, and runners. They also have all sorts of vendors, free water, free bike and roller skating rentals, and ziplining. Its the kind of event that reminds me why I love living in this city.
We met up downtown to start our run and headed uptown. Katherine was running about 13 miles and my goal was for 6, so she had already run half her distance by the time we found each other. I loved how many athletes there were outside, it almost felt like an organized race!
We headed uptown to get our full mileage in and got to see the sights along the way. While we enjoyed different parts of the run, this was the best part…
Along the way we stopped to refill our water bottles at the water stops the city set up. I’m super glad they were there because it was SO hot out. The heat and I don’t get along but luckily most of the road was shaded. On our way back we stopped by the Muscle Milk booth and had a protein drink (Light Cafe Latte flavor.. delish!). They were also hosting free yoga classes so we stopped by to stretch. We sort of made up our own routine, but the real one looked pretty good too!
I ended the morning with 6.5 miles which I was thrilled about. I felt good enough to keep going too but felt it would be smart to stop and not to push it with this crazy knee of mine.
After our run, I headed up to Central Park to meet up with some awesome Sweat Pink Ambassadors! The founders of FitApproach, Jamie and Elyse, were both in NYC for the BlogHer event and hosting a few bootcamps during the week. Jamie ran an awesome bootcamp on Saturday, I did as much as I could but I was SO sore from my workouts during the week and my morning run. The workout was great, though. Jamie really knows her stuff!
Next, SPA Melissa ran her first ever yoga class after finishing up her yoga instructor training. While I don’t consider myself a yoga person per-se, I think she did a great job! After the classes we all chatted for a bit and headed out of the park. But not before taking an awesome group photo and getting some great swag bags from Jamie and Elyse. All of these girls are awesome and know how to sweat pink for sure. I am so happy to have met them all this weekend!!
