I had a run-filled weekend, and it was great. It feels so good to be back in the game with no IT Band pain (knock on wood it stays this way!). Thanks Finishline Physical Therapy for getting my horrible body healthy again, you guys are the best!

Saturday:
Saturday started off as a lazy-ish day. I had a really long week so I gave myself the chance to sleep in a bit, all the way to 9am! My 14 year old self would be disappointed in me, but I was happy with it. As the day went on I pumped myself up for a run by basically talking myself into it.
I went out in the afternoon for a 3 mile run around Downtown Brooklyn and DUMBO, down by the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. Its a great place for wedding photos in general and since the weather was nice, everyone was out in full force. I ran around about 7 or 8 wedding groups! Insanity. The run itself wasn’t one of my best. My breathing was difficult and I’m not sure if its just me being out of shape or the heat making my asthma go crazy. Either way, I wasn’t into it. And I realized I’m really more of a morning runner than evening, when I can wake myself up for it

Sunday:
So I took what I learned from my Saturday run and headed out early Sunday morning for my solo 7 miler in Brooklyn. I decided to head to Prospect Park, which is beautiful this time of year (actually most times of the year). I practiced using Instagram (follow me: runlikeagrl) with this picture of the Bailey Fountain at the park entrance. It was so hot on my run and it took everything I had not to jump in this. But that would be inappropriate. Boo!
Running the loop in Prospect Park reminded me of the Brooklyn Half in May. That is definitely one of my favorite races because the course is so awesome, and its nice to run somewhere besides Central Park for a change (where most NYRR races are held). Everyone seemed to be out Sunday: runners, bikers, walkers, etc. It was almost like being in a race because of all the people!
I always look forward to running past the lake here, too. Its so pretty and there are swans. Someday I have to come here for a picnic or some non-running related reason because it really is a great park.
One of the things I hate about running in the summer is how my water gets so warm! I use a handheld water bottle and it doesn’t stay cold long enough so I always end up drinking warm water towards the end of my runs. Some day I’ll find a solution to this and be rich! Someday…
After running in the park, I ran home to finish up my mileage. Running the streets isn’t nearly as fun because of all the lights and other people not paying attention on the sidewalk. But I made it and finished up my 7 miles! My longest run in a really long time. Oh, and I wore my new Sweat Pink Run Tank (yes, I got the tank too) and am in love. The material and fit are awesome. Get one!

I had some awesome food this weekend too! Karl and I tried out a new place near us and fell in love. It might just be “our” place, we’ve been waiting for so long for this! They have great food and even better dessert. I had a homemade Dulce de Leche pie with pretzel crumbles. Um, amazing. I wish I could give this to you all to try, you would love it.
I also discovered a new flavor of Kind granola bar this weekend: Dark Chocolate Cherry Cashew + Antioxidant. This bar is So good and has “50% of the recommended daily intake of Vitamins A, C, and E, which fight free radicals, and help maintain the immune system and healthy skin.” I like the sound of that a lot. Plus, it tastes really good and has dark chocolate on it. What could be better than that?! This is definitely one to try, go check it out.
What did you do this weekend? Tell me about it!
Did you run at all?
Do you have any new food finds?

happy to hear your IT band is feeling better! i’ve injured mine before and it so painful! oh and if you ever find a solution to keeping water cold while doing long runs i will invest in the making of the prototype! lol
Thanks! IT Band injuries are the worst, it’s awful! Haha if I come up with an idea I’ll let you know!
Yay for getting some running in this weekend! Saturday I took a much needed “rest” day and worked an adventure race with my gym. Today I got out and did 17 mile bike and a one mile run in my fastest time! Yay
ps following you on instagran RIGHT now!!
Thanks!! Glad you got in an awesome bike ride, 17 miles is awesome
thanks for the tour of brooklyn! that kind bar looks delicious. dark chocolate, fruit, and nuts..and it’s healthy? i’m in.
You’re welcome!! Oh that bar is delicious, a must try
Congrats on your runs girl! Looks like a nice route you had on Sunday.
glad your IT band cooperating! You look cute in the pic…NOT gross, lol! Have a great day!
Aww thanks girl! Guess sweat is my thing haha. Glad to be running happily again!
Wahoo for your long run! I did 7 miles the other day and guess what’s starting to hurt again? oh yeah, the it band. stupid thing! I have been foam rolling it like crazy because I have some races coming up soon.
Loved seeing your pics from around Brooklyn!
Oh no it’s hurting you again?! Ugh isn’t it the worst injury because it nags. Hopefully some foam rolling and ice will be helpful! Sending you positive wishes!
Great job on the runs!! It looks like your route is really nice! I was supposed to get up and do 15 yesterday but still haven’t been feeling quite right, so I just did 6 on the treadmill. Not as fun…
That’s okay, awesome that you got up anyway and ran! Hope you are feeling better really soon.
Great job on your training runs! Looks like some gorgeous places to run.
Sounds like you had a great weekend! Mike and I headed back to Rochester from Maine on Saturday
and then we ran our 18 miler yesterday, it was tough at the end but went really well.
I’ve always wanted to go to Maine, so jealous that you went! Nice job on the 18 miler.. That’s fantastic!
Let me know when you come up with the solution to the water getting warm! My husband and I looked into moving to Brooklyn once and we looked around Prospect Park – it looks so beautiful – I would love to run there!
Haha I’ll let you know for sure! It would revolutionize the world. Wish you guys moved to Brooklyn because then we could run together
Yay for no pain!! Love prospect park!
I was at the jersey shore this weekend with all of my girlfriends from college so running was not a priority! Today starts our serious training, though!
Prospect park is so fun! Wish I was at the beach this past weekend, sounds like a fun relaxing time.
I love running in Prospect Park. I may or may not be obsessed.
Sounds like you had a great running weekend!
Haha me too. We should meet up for a run someday!
Great run! Freeze your water bottle the night before. It stays cold a little bit longer than it normally does. That’s about all the tricks i have up my sleeve? haha
Thanks for the tip. Maybe it’ll help, I’ll try it!
This weekend was all mountain farming. We helped making hay, so no running for me. But it was a great upper arms / back workout….
Wow that’s so cool! Definitely sounds like a good workout haha, I’m sure your arms were tired after that
Looks like such a great weekend and glad you had no IT band issues. I wish I could run
Silly tendinitis! Also, LOVE that Kind bar flavor! Perfect combination of flavors!
Running injuries stink
its so annoying not to be able to run when you want to! Heal up soon girl!
It’s always easier to run when there is a beautiful view! and I think I saw these bars at Whole Foods today! Darn!
Agreed! A view makes such a difference. You should pick them up next time, they are definitely at whole foods
Great job on the weekend running without any problems! I may have been slightly hungover during my Saturday run at 10am. When the sun started coming out. Yea… only 2 miles happened not the intended 5. oh well! At least I did some.
Haha that’s okay, its all about work-life-running balance
I’ve seen these kind bars before but have never committed to a purchase!! Nice long run. I enjoyed the beach this weekend and some fist pumping!!
You should try them, they are so tasty! Jealous you went to the beach!
Great job on the running! I love Kind bars but haven’t seen that flavor – I’m going to have to look for it. It sounds amazing!
Thanks girl! Definitely look for it, its a really good flavor. One of my favs!
I spent my weekend in Door County Wisconsin which was incredible! Sadly, I didn’t get in any runs (because of my broken toe) but plenty of bike rides for sure!
That sounds so awesome, I’ve never been there but people seem to love it! So sorry about your toe
But its great you can still bike ride!
It is (in my opinion) the best mid west vacation spot. We don’t have an ocean so the bays and lakes are as good as it gets around here!
