My Weekend Recap: Good Eats & Running

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Mine went really fast (of course) and was filled with lots of running and eating. Two of my favorite things! Plus, I have some food finds to share.

Running:

This weekend I ran the NYRR Fitness Mind Body and Spirit Games 4 mile race in Central Park. The race recap will be up tomorrow, but I can tell you that I had a rockin’ PR! It was a really fun day and I was so happy to finish with a great time. Check in tomorrow for more!

As per my training plan, I also ran another 10 miler today around Brooklyn and through Prospect Park. It was perfect weather. I love love love fall running! I felt really good today and increased my pace to an average of 9:43, a big change from the Bronx 10 mile race last weekend. Whew, back to a normal pace for me. After my run, I put on my Aspaeris shorts for compression and went to brunch with my family!

Good Eats:
There was some good eating going on this weekend too. On Saturday night Karl and I went to a place in Brooklyn called Ki Sushi, which came highly recommended by friends, Yelp and Zagat. We just had to try it! I started with a seaweed salad that was delicious and also got some of their signature sushi rolls: Ki roll (with gold flakes on top!) and the Spicy Girl Roll. Yum yum yum. I love sushi!

Seaweed salad. Yum!

We sat at the bar and were able to watch the sushi chef’s make our food! Its truly a skill and I was amazed at how much finesse goes into it. This was probably one of the best sushi restaurants I’ve been to, the fish quality was fantastic and the rolls were so creative. I loved it!

My sushi rolls!

Karl got one of the rolls and the sushi/sashimi tasting menu with an assortment of types of fish. I didn’t try much of it but he said it was incredible! It looked amazing!

Today after my run, my parents came to Brooklyn and met up with me, Karl and my sister for brunch around Brooklyn Heights. Brunch is so popular in the city so it was hard to get reservations but we were able to get one at a little French place called Chez Moi! It ended up being fantastic and perfect for the different food tastes of my family.

I had my usual brunch choice: Eggs Florentine. Something about poached eggs and some spinach on a Sunday just seems right. The eggs here were perfect and they had great flavor, plus the potatoes on the side were cooked great too. Everyone loved their meals which I was happy about since I was the one who picked it :)

I love brunch!

Food Finds:

Some of these are old pictures, but I realized I never shared them with you so I’m including them now :)

1. One of the first food finds is Honey Stinger Rocket Chocolate bars. I had one of these when I was cycling in Vermont and fell in love. They taste so natural and have the honeycomb texture which I love from this brand. Its so perfect for on-the-go or as a mid-day snack. I don’t know any stores near me that sell this so I may have to order them. One of my new favorites!

2. The second find is also from Honey Stinger (loving this company!), their Vanilla Stinger Waffle. I’ve seen these for a while but finally decided to buy one and try it. Just like the last food find, I LOVE this! I love the waffle texture, the flavor is great, and its organic and natural. Since its big in size, its more realistic to bring when I’m cycling as a snack but it won’t fit into my running iFitness belt, unless I break it into smaller pieces… hm, not a bad idea!

3. My last food find is one I’ve been on the hunt for for a while now: Chobani Vanilla Chocolate Chunk yogurt. I recently found it in a grocery store that just opened near me and of course I snatched it right up. This stuff is SO good. It a healthy alternative to a chocolate bar but satisfies my cravings in the same way. I am in love. I ate it so fast I never got the chance to put it in a smoothie but thats the plan when I get another container. I highly recommend finding this one!

  1. Sounds like a wonderful weekend!!

I’ve had a pack of honey stinger waffers for a while, but haven’t gotten around to trying them yet, bc they don’t fit in my running packs. I think they should make a running version, pre-cut.

I’m not sure if chocolate greek yogurt would = a candy bar for me, but looks interesting to try. I always read about these cool Chobani flavors though and all I see in stores are cherry/peach/blueberry/honey/plain.

OH BTW — Vegan Truck is in USQ on Saturday, let’s do it!

  2. I like honey stingers although I’ve only had the waffle and the chews. I will look for the chocolate rocket. And NO I haven’t found Chobani Chocolate yet……
I ran 3 miles this morning, I am loving the fall weather!

  8. Sounds like a great weekend!

I love all of your food finds! I haven’t tried honey stingers yet, but I want to. I will have to experiment with some things while cycling, for running I definitely prefer gels.
