Getting Back Into the Routine

Well, sadly the holidays are behind us and its definitely time to get back into the swing of things. That means reeling back on how much dessert I’m eating (holiday sweets are my Achilles heel), amping up training, and getting into a consistent exercise routine. To start it off, I went to Flex Studios (formerly Pilates Pro Works) for two weeks in a row for some core/strengthening exercise.

I absolutely love Reformer pilates and love how it makes my body feel. That soreness the day after is my favorite feeling.. its a sign of a good workout! Plus, I really need the strengthening to keep myself from getting injured while running. I am determined to keep 2014 an injury-free year!

I also went skiing upstate this weekend which is always a great leg workout. This past Saturday was not only perfect weather, but the recent snowstorm dropped several inches of snow onto the mountain. Needless to say the conditions were amazing!

I always love the workout skiing gives my legs because of the endurance aspect of the sport. I also love that it gives me the chance to be active outside during the winter without feeling like I want to cry. Skiing keeps you pretty warm! The only part of me that sometimes gets cold are my feet, but my feet hate me and are always cold! I’ve accepted it.

Running in the winter isn’t as easy, but not impossible if you dress right. Check out this guide to help you determine how to dress when running in different weather conditions. Just because its cold its no excuse to not get in your run. I’ve been mixing it up between the treadmill on really cold days (like today.. hello -15 degree windchills!) and outdoor running on the more mild cold days. Get into your new year routine as soon as possible and don’t let the cold get in your way!

Other fun facts this week:

-I (sadly) took down my Christmas decorations this week.
-I am obsessed with Battlestar Galactica, but Karl and I have finished all the episodes. Now I don’t know what to watch next! Suggestions?
-I have attempted to buy winter boots for about 2 months. Problems? First pair wasn’t warm enough, second pair was huge, third pair ripped. At least I have good socks!
-I am very excited about the new year and all that 2014 is going to bring!
-I have watched a ton of Big Bang Theory this week. Like a ton.
-My work computer is breaking. I have no luck with technology.

  1. Skiing is such a great workout!

  2. I’ve never tried reformer pilates. Maybe I’ll put it on my 2014 to do list. Glad you are back in the swing of things :)

  3. I’ve never gone skiing but there’s some slopes near where we live and I really want to try it out! And I’ve always wanted to learn how to snowboard but I’ll probably fall on my face :)
