I’m SO happy to report I’ve been running a lot lately and have been running without pain. I have taken the slow return to running and have been gradually increasing my mileage. This weekend I passed 4 miles for the first time in a few months, which isn’t much compared to what I have done in the past. But for me right now and where I am, its great and I feel happy doing it.
I loved the route I took this weekend, and was happy that half my run was completed with Katherine. Having a running buddy makes everything more fun, especially in the summer when I’m hot and sweaty. It was another Brooklyn Bridge run and then down to the West Side Highway. I did forget, however, how incredibly crowded the bridge is after 9am and I regretted not going out to run earlier. It gets dangerous on that bridge with people not paying attention! But the views are always breathtaking…
I also decided this weekend that I LOVE running with sunglasses and I have no idea how I ever ran without them. Specifically, I am loving my Sport Rx sunglasses more and more every time I wear them. These shades were custom made for me with my own eyeglasses prescription, so I can see clearly. And they control all the sun, I honestly don’t know how I ever ran without these.
What’s also nice about low mileage runs is:
-can do hill and speedwork
-don’t have to find so many things to think about while running
-more free time for other fun things
-sleeping in later on weekends. Yes!
-less of a chance to get a sunburn due to less time being in the sun
-don’t need to find a water fountain because I don’t need water bottle refills
Also, I’m soaking this in while I can because pretty soon starts.. dun dun dun.. MARATHON training! I can’t believe it snuck up on me but July I’ll begin my training plan for the 2014 TCS NYC Marathon. This year WILL be my year. I am going to train and finish the race, so I have to train really smart. I’m still creating a schedule but I decided to keep it low mileage and to fit in lots of cross training to prevent all these stupid injuries. I never do enough cross training and thats my big flaw.
In addition to all the running I’ve been doing (and mentally preparing for the NYC Marathon training), there has been lots of fun weddings things going on for friends of mine. No update on my own wedding planning, we are still getting a list of potential venues. Planning a wedding is quite hard and time consuming!
This weekend I went to NJ for a bridal shower, and decided to take off my running shoes and put a dress on for once. I can clean up if I want to!
Plus I am obsessed with my bright pink lipstick. I was never into wearing it in the past but I am loving it now. How things change!
What did you do this weekend?
What big races are you preparing for?
