Better late than never I usually say! So with my trip to Vermont coming at the end of August, I never got the chance to write about my Foodie Pen Pal for this month. Therefore, I’m doing it now and asking you all to forgive my tardiness. Foodie Pen Pals was started by Lindsay@ The Lean Green Bean. She created this program for bloggers, blog readers, and food lovers to connect with other people around the country and share foodie items.  Click here to learn more about how to join and sign up! Trust me, its super fun and you should try it!

This month I was paired with the wonderful Cari, who sent me an amazing selection of goodies to try. I was happy to see that the things she picked were exactly the types of food I eat all the time. Awesome job Cari!
     What was included:
  • Trail mix
I eat trail mix/granola like its my job, so this was a great little addition to my Greek yogurt in the mornings! I’ve also had some as a snack when I leave home, because I never leave home without a snack or water. Super tasty!
  • Quinoa
How did she know I’m a quinoa addict?! Plus I love that its organic. I’m planning on using this soon when I make quinoa burgers again. Just thinking about it is making me hungry!
  • Citrus Green Tea
I haven’t tried this yet, but can’t wait for the fall/winter so I can drink it. I’m a tea addict and drink it daily throughout the cooler months. It smells SO good.
  • Orange and Lemon Pepper in a Grinder
This was one of the coolest most unique things I’ve seen! I never even heard of flavored peppercorns before, but I’ve already put this on several dishes and it gives food an awesome flavor. Plus, I love pepper (a lot) to begin with, so this was perfect for me. Definitely should try this if you see it near you!
  • Odwalla bars
Cari sent me two Odwalla bars, which I couldn’t appreciate enough! I am obsessed with energy/granola bars and love trying new ones. The two she sent were really tasty, I’m in love!

Thanks so much Cari for sending such a great package of food goodies! I really appreciate it :) I encourage all of you to join the Foodie Pen Pals, its a fantastic program!

Weekend Run and July Foodie Pen Pal Reveal!

Today’s Workout: Physical Therapy, lower body exercises

Before I start this post, I just want to mention a bit about my running! Its been going really well which I’m really happy to report :) I met up with Katherine this past Sunday and planned to run about 4 miles. She was going for 11 that day so she met up with me about halfway through her run.

We ended up having a really nice run and chatted the whole time. I felt so good that I ended up running about 5.5 miles! YES, 5.5!!! With NO knee pain or IT Band strap. I was sort of sore Monday because my body has been de-conditioned by this injury, but I’m thrilled my knee seems to be doing well.

I wanted to share this to let anyone else with this injury know that it CAN go away… its not easy, but its possible. Here’s to hoping this lasts as I keep increasing mileage. Hope everyone out there is improving, too!!

I still hate my IT Band!

This month Maya was assigned to me and sent me an awesome package. That’s two GREAT ones in a row! Not only did she send me some great food, but also a really nice letter. She wrote it at the time when I was seriously in need of some running motivation and her words really meant a lot to me. Thanks Maya :)

So what did she send me in addition to the letter? Here it is:

My goodies!

Larabars: These are always a winner, how did Maya know I’m in love with these?! She sent me three flavors and I loved them all :) Can’t go wrong when you send me granola/healthy bars.

TJ’s hot and spicy mustard: OBSESSED! So glad she send this because I would never have tried it on my own. But now when I go to TJs I need to get this. I dipped this in pretzels and my sister and I devoured it. It didn’t last long in my house.. amazing!

Peach Chutney: This looks so tasty but I haven’t tried it just yet. I finally bought groceries this weekend (yay for having food in the house) and am planning on putting this on some chicken. I’m really excited to try it!

Perky Jerky: Another big winner. I have always been a beef jerky fan but this put all the other brands I’ve tried to shame! The beef wasn’t too dry, which is a big deal and makes all the difference. Love the protein in these babies :)

Pan Pita: This was a little treat Maya added to my package to make your own pitas! Basically, you use bread and whatever you want to put inside to create a sandwich that is supposed to come out looking like a Crustable. I love things like this and can’t wait to use it!

So fun!

Sunsweet Prunes: I hadn’t ever tried a prune until I got this package and I have to say, I’m liking them! They have a good amount of fiber which is great. I like them when I don’t want to have chocolate but need something sweet!

Laura’s Wholesome Junk Food Chocolate Fudge Bite-lettes: Love love love. These were so tasty and HEALTHY at the same time. What a nice solution when I’m craving chocolate! Ingredients of this gluten-free food include: rolled oats, vegan chocolate chips, dates, and coconut. Apparently they are sold in Whole Foods so I may have to go find them :)

Roasted chestnuts: Preface: I’ve never had chestnuts before. I wasn’t sure what to expect here but the texture of these threw me off a bit. Once I ate them, they were pretty good but the texture distracted me!

Thanks again to Maya for an awesome package, I loved it all and am so thankful for another great month of Foodie Pen Pals! Looking forward to next month for sure.

My First Foodie Pen Pal Reveal

Yesterday’s Workouts: Chisel class@ Crunch, spin class @Crunch with Carl Hall
Today’s Workout: biking at some point!

I’m so excited for this post because its my first Foodie Pen Pal reveal! In case you haven’t heard of it, Lindsay@ The Lean Green Bean created this program for bloggers, blog readers, and food lovers to connect with other people around the country and share foodie items. I’ve read about other people in this program for a while now and finally decided to join last month! I figured its a great way to try food from different parts of the country but also to try new foods! I’m always up for that. Click here to learn more about how to join the program and to sign up.
The Lean Green Bean
This month I was assigned to a girl in Texas named Katie. She isn’t a blogger so there’s no post about what I sent her, but I hope she enjoyed everything! I tried really hard to make it a great box for her and send her some cool items from around my area. So fun to collect all the items to send!

The person who was assigned to send me some goodies was Britt from Britt’s Blurbs. Britt is a total foodie and posts recipes, food finds, and also about her travels and adventures! She seriously has some amazing looking dishes and great recipes, I don’t know how I didn’t find her blog before! Once we started talking I realized we are basically foodie twins! We love a ton of the same foods and both love trying new things. What a great match-up. Go ahead and check out her blog, shes awesome!!

So when I got my package in the mail this month I was super excited like a little kid on Christmas. She wrote me a really nice letter along with all of this amazingness below. Seriously, could this be any more perfect for me?!

The contents of my foodie pen pal package!!

The first thing I noticed was that Britt captured my love of chocolate, specifically dark chocolate. Plus, most of them were chocolate + sea salt. Anyone who knows me know this is my heaven!

Dark Chocolate Dried Tart Cherries: She got me these from her local farmer’s market in Michigan. I had to fend off my boyfriend from these, he kept trying to go after them but I wouldn’t let him. I’m recently getting into tart cherries and these sealed the deal for me. Amazing!
Chocolove xoxo: This little chocolate bar was incredible, and at 70 calories and 5g of fat its so perfect for my chocolate cravings. Seriously, you HAVE to try these. I found out they sell them at Whole Foods so I’m going to go stock up!
BT McElrath Chocolatier Salty Dog Bite and Prairie Dog Bite: These were little bites of chocolate, basically a little bigger than a Dove chocolate square. SO SO good! Again, its a nice way to satisfy my cravings. They made me so happy I can’t tell you how much I loved all the chocolate!

Chocolately goodness

Pure Bliss Organic Acai Coconut Bites: I am in LOVE with these and totally wish they sold them near me. They are little bits similar to the texture of a granola bar. They have such a great flavor and I especially love the coconut!
Maple Bites: These little maple bites were different, I’ve never seen anything like this before, and very sweet, but that never stopped me :) I never understand people who say food is too sweet! Love em!
Sesame Sticks: I’ve had sesame sticks before a while ago but I forgot how much I love them. Britt reminded me by sending these! This is another item I have to go buy again, hopefully I can find some as good as these. They were crunchy but not so much where they hurt my teeth.

More goodies!

Justin’s PB blend: Honestly there’s no way to go wrong with PB when it comes to me. And this was no exception. I loved everything about this little package and its another I want to find more of! I have seen these around the blogger world and now I know why! It has a great flavor and is perfect for on the go.
Artisan’s Raw Cacao Bliss: I’ve never seen anything like this before (coconut butter) but I was so excited to try it! It didn’t disappoint and I am now a coconut butter lover! Almond butter, peanut butter, cookie butter and now coconut butter.. anyone see a trend here :)

Coconut butter is a new one for me!

Mango Slices: I love mango so this was right up my alley. Can’t go wrong with dried fruits and especially my favorite one! This was a good snack that I took to work with me so I could have the mango flavor without the hassle of cutting it up!

Mango slices!

Britt also sent me a cute little notepad with a great message on it. What a nice surprise!

So adorable!

Britt, thank you SO much for sending such amazing goodies. Its  like we are the same person, I was in love with every single item you sent. You also got me hooked on those chocolove bars so now I’m going to go on a mission to find them :) I really appreciate you putting all that thought into this package.. it was SUCH an amazing foodie pen pal especially for my first one!
